Peter Joshua or Peter Joshua Rivers as was his given baptismal name was born in England in 1553 during the end of Edward VI's reign. The Rivers household was of upper-middle class and held tight to a firm Roman Catholic upbringing. Act of Uniformity passed just five years later in 1558 knocked the family into a disagreeable position. For years Peter was forced along with his parents and siblings to attend Sunday services at an Anglican church and for years his family lied through gritted teeth and denied any claims that they were practicing Catholics. The now treasonous act, as was pronounced at the beginning of every Protestant summon, of attending Mass was done quietly in the dead of night with small clusters of other families who had to hid their beliefs in everyday life.
After much debate in 1561 the family fled to France, living under the care of a wealthy uncle of Mary Rivers. Though the family had fled to avoid the threat of an upcoming war the French wars of religion began just one year later. Grasping at the straws of what he knew of religion Peter, at the age of 19 joined his French military brethren in the war of religion. Proving himself a keen swordsman, Peter rose among the ranks during the 'fourth' war.
The death of Charles IX sparked the beginning of another war just a year after. Peter assisted his kinsman, giving them reason beyond doubt to believe in their faith, pushing them with promises of a Heaven too magnificent to be untrue and he lead many whom he had come to call friends to fight for the freedoms they deserved. One early morning in 1575, while the soldiers with Peter slept a raid party of Huguenots invaded their camp, slaughtering any they crossed. Fighting valiantly to the end Peter died a knight's death, slaying his last opponent while clutching the blade protruding from his chest that lead to his own demise.
Death's icy chill was replaced by a soft warmth and Peter opened his eyes to find himself engulfed in a warm golden flame. A voice, kind and gentle spoke to the fallen man offering a new kind of life. Awed at this suggestion new life serving God himself Peter agreed wholeheartedly. In a flash of white suddenly the bloody remnants of the uniform he was once to proud to bear dissipated and in its wake a new, gleaming armor stood.
As his vision became clear the young man found himself kneeling before a glorious golden throne. The gentle voice spoke to him again and a warmth spread through him as a hand was lain upon his shoulder. A new pressure around his neck lead one of his hands to clutch at metal band secured around it and the voice spoke again, and this time he was able to understand fully what was uttered to him.
"Rise Peter Joshua, Angel of his Holy and Good Almighty God, creator of Heaven and Earth."
Pysical:
Peter has mane of soft blond hair that curls slightly at the ends. He has blue eyes that became piercingly brighter after his accession. As he died at the age of 22 he still looks the part at 6'0 with his childlike face and strong soldier's build. Peter most often wears: silver armor with gold accents as well as a red tunic embroidered with a white cross and silver chain-mail with more gold accents, when he is called upon to carry out missions. This was given to him upon his agreement to accept the offer to become an angel and serve God. If he's not doing God's will Peter Joshua is watching over those deemed "innocents" or simply enjoying his new afterlife where he has been stationed on Earth.
Personality:
Peter is courageous, loyal, clever, devoted and sometimes a bit overly energetic. While he is 460 he's still just barely 22 at heart and has a quite playful nature. It isn't odd to catch him juggling or playing games with children or animals. Most of the time he has a cheerful sort of smile stuck on his face. When it comes down carrying out orders Peter Joshua's demeanor does a 360. He can be cold, unemotional and impulsive. If he's been told to take out a target he doesn't ask questions, he doesn't listen to pleas for mercy and he never spares anyone, not even children. If he has been told to get rid of someone he does just that.
Other:
Peter loves dogs. On one of his first assignments he came in contact pack of the lively, furry brutes and immediately fell in love with the loyalty they show their masters and their happy-go-luck, playful attitudes.
He can not swim.
Peter likes to climb trees. Its not odd at all to find him sitting up on one of the higher branches of a tree just about anywhere reading or simply observing the going on below.
