I wanna see the dirt under your skin I want the guts and glory baby
They knew what she was; by the way they stared nervously in her direction, wondering if she were going to remain where she was or attempt to make a meal out of them. They shuffled about, restless, but where could they go? They were trapped. It was that very knowledge that kept them safe…for the time being. The predator did not want something locked in a cage something that could not run and give her a good chase; she wanted something worth eating. The pathetic antelope that she gazed at impassively were nothing more than the packaged meat at the grocery store. While it would sustain her and keep her from slaughtering people in broad daylight it did not taste as good as it did when she chased it through the woods. Fear of being taken down gave the meat a special flavor that she had grown to enjoy. They were lucky they weren’t her type. The humans that walked around her, however, they were. Although her gaze was fixed quietly on the animals, her attention was mainly directed towards the humans that thought everything was fine- if not frustrated by the fact that the antelope and other animals in the vicinity were trying to hide or make themselves look larger by huddling together in a group.
The humans brought their kids and when the children wailed over not being able to see the adults tried to reassure them. Finally turning her dark brown eyes from the animals she turned her full attention to a father and his child, the child was crying and muttering something neither she nor the father could understand. Honestly, why bring someone who can’t talk to the zoo? She thought sarcastically, watching with amusement at his failed attempts to soothe the girl who wanted to see the animals act normal. Shaking her head slightly, she turned and made her way to the next exhibit, giving the guy some relief by leaving and allowing the animals to return to normal. The wailing was getting on her nerves anyway.
The next exhibit was one she had visited often, but it was also the one that angered her most. The grey wolves she stared at were elegant and graceful, but upon her entrance even they became agitated. Leaning towards them on the wooden post, she watched them a small smile on her face. It was not hard to guess why they acted the way they did, she was a threat, dancing along the line of their measly little territory. While she was a lycan, kin to them in a far off reality, her scent was different to them and every other natural animal she was dangerous and if dainty little Ehren could not be eliminated than she would be watched and if necessary- ran from. This bothered her, however, in the cage before her was the animal she had always admired and loved, and it hated her with every fiber of its being. Without question she knew that if she were to enter their enclosure they would launch themselves at her. They were not the wild beauty she wanted to be, but a caged and broken version, still, they would defend their home. This was not all that bothered her, before she had been bitten and the wolves went about their day without a threat the human kids would howl and bark and growl, even now, she could hear a kid mocking them with a sad attempt at a howl. They were too busy to hear his awful wail, but she was not and it made her grit her teeth together, shutting her eyes tight to keep from getting angry. Go away kid. Go away.
Sucking air between her teeth she tried to calm herself. It would have been simple to just leave the area, but the sudden rage gripped her, stronger than before she had been bitten, it held her in place, forcing her to listen to his wailing mockery. The animal inside her wanted to be free, it clawed at her chest, her mind, her very being, it wanted to be free and rip the kids throat out for even thinking he could get them to respond. On some level even Ehren wanted to do that. She had only fought the shift once before and that was when she was first turned and she was starting to remember just why she did not fight it. On the contrary, Ehren loved being the animal in the night, the predator everything ran from, but even she knew better than to attract attention by shifting and slaughtering people in the middle of the day…in the zoo. Ironically, as she began to lose control, the wolves seemed even more nervous, shifting from territorial to flighty, they moved to the back of the enclosure, pacing its length. A few pawed at the ground, wanting to dig their way out if necessary.

AND I'LL SET YOU FREEI AM IN MISERY* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
while it seemed highly unlikely that anyone could be trapped inside the san diego zoo overnight, one lone wolf had made that a possibility. as usual, greyson cyprien had abandoned all sense of civility, broken the rules, and gotten what he wanted. what else was to be expected from him, really? well, anything less would have been too mundane for him, and he certainly couldn’t have that. though it was an unusual situation, he had allowed it to play into his hands perfectly, without so much as a single minute of planning. having a habit for showing up in the most random of places, grey had decided to meander through the zoo just before closing the time previous evening. he lagged behind the groups of mothers ushering their children toward the gates, watching each animal look as miserable as the next in their enclosures. he could sympathize with them, always feeling trapped himself. though he did not enjoy killing innocents, he did enjoy the wolf that he was…and thrived for freedom. as much as he considered himself a bold and daring man, and followed his own wishes, he knew that he could never fully be a true wild being.
having gone unnoticed by many of the staff, grey sat and watched the wolves in their meager pens. they seemed unhappy, even meek in the zoo’s habitat, as though they had been broken…or even frightened into suppression. after watching for a few moments, he quickly understood why. a zookeeper entered the perimeter of the canis lupis exhibit, holding a large metal rod as a device to ward them off. ”back off you mangy mutts….get!” the wolves did their best to stray from his vicinity but it was clear that they were hungry for the fresh meal he held in his other arm. the alpha jumped on him, standing on two legs as though he were a dog begging for a treat from his master. they were hungry, clearly, not threatening in any manner. the keeper pushed him off, hitting him with the metal rod and throwing the meat in the dirt for the small pack to fight over. he muttered something under his breath about the damn animals before exiting, failing to complete his duties properly as an animal caregiver.
mind you, grey had no attachment to everyday animals. and while he was not a wolf, like the ones before him, he could not help but feel a twinge of empathy for them. they had done nothing to deserve such scrutiny from this pathetic mortal…and as a distant relative to the beast he was, he felt the need to seek some vengeance for them. the lycan could feel the canines extending from his palette and his clothes tightening around his chest…it was happening and there wasn’t a damn thing he was going to do to stop it. he usually refrained from attacking out in the open, reserving his meal time for the scum of the earth who wouldn’t be missed had he killed them. though it was a small measure to piss him off, this guy certainly seemed to fall into that category. without so much as any warning, grey had transformed and with a flash of blood and ripping of flesh, the zookeeper was no more.
thus, this was how greyson cyprien had ended up on his little overnight adventure in the san diego zoo. after feasting on a long overdue meal, he had passed out comfortably behind the wolf exhibit. when he awoke, he was covered in blood and soot, completely naked. he remembered little of the previous night, other than his anger with the now dead zookeeper. however, he hadn’t felt any remorse either. his stomach was full and he felt as though he had the energy to run a marathon three times over. standing, he found his clothing few yards away….having grown smart over the last couple years as to remove them before becoming the monster he was. though he was not modest or shy about being naked, it had left for some increasingly awkward situations in the past.
pulling on his recycled clothing form the night before, grey bent over to the puddle and attempted to scrub his bloodstained face and arms. he didn’t much care about his appearance in the public eye but waltzing out of the zoo covered in blood was bound to raise some eyebrows…and would likely lead to a call either to the police or the nearest asylum. he felt as though he had done a fairly good job, brushing back his hard with a wet hand before standing. the physical evidence of his attack had faded, but he could still smell the blood on his skin and knew it would be a good while before that faded. he had planned to linger around the zoo the night before and cause some trouble…maybe find a pretty little lady to go home with. you know, a sexy single mom, or something of that nature. instead, he feasted and felt fantastic. good enough, he supposed.
rounding the corner of the exhibit, grey cast a quick glance around to see if any other zoo employees were lingering around. surely they would have noticed that the man had not shown up for work and that his car was still in the parking lot. they would be on the hunt for him and the last thing he needed was to be seen in the area. he stepped out of the shadows, quickly attempting to escape the area. he hadn’t gotten too far before he ran into someone, growing under his breath. ”watch where you’re going…” he muttered at the person. of course, he was the one who had ran into her, but that didn’t stop him from thinking he ran the world. he took a moment to glance over the one he had run into, a quick smirk blossoming across his features. ”well, fancy that.”
there was no hiding the nature of greyson cyprien’s sexual habits. he was a manwhore, plain and simple, and made it known to the world. but at the same time, he couldn’t shake this feeling of great longing for miss ehren sparks. he didn’t necessarily make it known how much he cared for her, but he did make tailing after her obvious. lucky enough for him, he picked just the right day to be waking up at the zoo. ”what happened, love? did you grow tired of being a shut in and actually decide to come out in the sun?” he couldn’t help but taunt her slightly, knowing she’d dish it right back. but damn, did she look good.

I wanna see the dirt under your skin I want the guts and glory baby
The anger that consumed her did not fade, the imagination that she was unfortunately prone to began to take root and grow, painting the image of her shifting. The scene that played out was beautiful, clothes ripped with flesh as her bones broke and rearranged themselves, making her taller, and sadly hairier. A beast with sharpened teeth and a nature that could only be described as murderous and lustful, that was the destination of this painful shift she fought. The scene shifted into fast-forward as humans began to scream and the boy panicked, giving up his wolfish wails for the terrified scream of a frightened child. The wolfish beast she became turned its dark eyes to the boy, springing forward. The father got in her way; she cut him down with ease. She went for the boy, teeth wrapping around his throat gently at first and then harder. She felt the skin give way and the blood flow into her mouth as she gave a single shake, killing him as well.
Blinking rapidly, she forced her eyes open, forced them to focus on the animals in front of her. She was frightening them, listening she no longer heard large groups of people. She heard the boy and his wailing. Deciding for a change she breathed in through her nose and her mind froze. Forcing herself to look at the boy, making sure he was in tact and then down at herself to make sure she hadn’t shifted and that it had indeed been her imagination taking control again. It did seem to help, the animal inside was restless, still trying to get out, but the scene caused a distraction, she could feel it amused and content. Where’s the blood? This was not fresh, she could tell that now, but it was there, too much to be from a meal for the wolves. Focusing on this thought made the animal inside hungry, but she pushed it away. Where was the blood?
It was that unceremonious moment that someone ran into, or rather slammed into her. The anger returned, her mouth opened as the male growled a rude comment about watching where she was going. The stubborn fire entered her eyes as she glared up at the man, only to scowl as he looked back at her, turning as he spoke again. What was he going to do now? Hit on you some more. The thought was one of irritation but there was a flutter in her stomach, butterflies. She ignored the feeling and lifted her head, setting her cold gaze on him. Grey was known for his promiscuous tendencies and as that pompous smirk spread across his lips she bristled instinctively. “yes, fancy that.” Her tone was accusing, although Ehren doubted he was intelligent enough to follow her to the zoo.
She rolled her eyes when he spoke; she was not some hermit that never went outside. Clucking her tongue, Ehren shook her head, “I was thinking about a bite to eat, but…” She stepped closer as her voice faded, invading his personal space. The act was not sexual, but a challenge. “…it looks like you beat me to it.” Her tone was quieter, barely above a whisper. Normally, this was where she took a step back, giving him his space, but this time Ehren was feeling bold, perhaps it was the near shift that made her so daring. Maybe it was the smell that kept her there, he did smell good, a mix of blood and earthy scent and of course the cologne he used. She could say it was highly appealing to her and her animal side, but that would mean admitting she liked something about him. She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction.
Ehren didn’t know if he had intentionally fed here, but she was betting that he hadn’t. He seemed every bit the control freak she was and if she were betting right, there was some part of him that would care that he couldn’t control his temper. She wasn’t about to tell him about her near slip, as far as he was concerned she was a model of control. Yeah…he isn’t that stupid. The snappy thought made her frown slightly, a flaw in her challenging expression. “You could have at least brought a change of clothes. Who would be swept off their feet for a hobo?” She clucked her tongue again, looking him up and down, the clothes he had shed were not hobo material they were nice, just dusted in dirt in a few places.

AND I'LL SET YOU FREEI AM IN MISERY* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
greyson cyprien had no qualms about being supernatural, but he didn’t love it either. in fact, one could say that he had a love-hate relationship with his wolf-like self. he had seen a broad spectrum of feelings for his kind among the pack. a few despised what they were and recognized themselves only as monsters who needed to be put down. it was these lycans who often lived in the shadows and in fear, looking for a means to an end or an alternative to killing. of course, they never found it. as greyson knew all too well, animal flesh did just not do the trick. and then there were those of pure blood, so full of themselves that they enjoyed the simple glory of being a creature of the night. mind you, they weren’t as glamorous or as poised as their vampire counterparts, but they still thought they were the supreme race. along with those, were the kind foolish enough to want this lifestyle…like little miss princess here. well, that wasn’t greyson either. you see, while he enjoyed eternity and the transformation, he wasn’t fond of murdering the innocent. he was simply just an inbetweener.
eternity had a habit of dragging on and on…well, because it was eternity. there were plenty of days where greyson could appreciate it. while boredom did taunt him on occasion, he used his endless amount of days to live out his wildest fantasies. and with each mistake he made, he had a thousand more days to correct it. most of these days consisted of bedding the finest san diego had to offer, but mostly, it meant more time to chase after ehren. he had yet to get her to even give him a chance. there was their sarcastic flirting (if you even wanted to call it that), but that was the extent of it. while he actually felt the idea of her tugging at his heartstrings, he told himself it was just the cat-and-mouse act getting to him.
though he was by no means to be considered polite, greyson wasn’t the rudest of masculine figures in the city either. after all, there was that prick carson hawk, who clearly thought he was king of the hunters. if that had been true, grey would have been dead where he stood, not waltzing around town and the zoo killing people for the fun of it. but that was besides the point…whereas he was not a horrible man, for the most part, grey did have an heir about him. everyone had one of those friends who thought he was fantastic in everyway possible. the only difference between greyson and all those others was that he didn’t even feel the need to boast it. boasting how splendid he was would be giving into the world, and he just couldn’t have that. so instead, he reminded himself on a daily basis. and so, he didn’t much care who he was running into…until he gave second glance. it wasn’t that he felt bad or wanted to apologize, but rather that he found great pleasure in bumping into her. not wanting to admit it, he did enjoy the company of the young woman. ”isn’t this place a bit tame for you?” he knew she was bold and the zoo seemed like quite the buzzkill for someone like her.
leave it to grey to make accusations that were rarely ever true. he was quite skilled at judging the character and weakness of others, but only used such details a handful of times. instead, he mixed them with false ones that seemed to irritated people to an even greater extent. life was nothing but a big game to him, and he was out to play everyone. grey opened his mouth to speak, but closed it as she took a step closer, watching her closely. his brilliant azure eyes flashed a canine gold as he peered over, more turned on by her actions than threatened…but he got the point. with her close to him, he took a moment to breathe her in, smirking slightly. ”you smell like a lost puppy dog, love.” no matter how tough she thought she was, and he knew she was tough, she was practically a child compared to the age of some of their elders. hell, grey himself peaked over one hundred, and even he was considered new to the trade. ”you know, you’re close enough i’d say you were gonna kiss me.” he leaned forward, puckering his lips and giving her a ridiculous bat of his eyes. try that one on for size.
it was true, grey was slightly annoyed with himself for losing control as he had. usually his meals were more planned out, and much better prepared. still, he couldn’t deny how much he enjoyed his full body and restored energy. ”is that a challenge? because i’d gladly accept it.” he winked, leaning back against the railing of the exhibit as he folded his arms across his chest. ”unless you’d prefer i didn’t wear any clothes at all…that can certainly be arranged.” he loved to watch her squirm from his comments, whether it was from discomfort or agitation…it didn’t matter.

I wanna see the dirt under your skin I want the guts and glory baby
It was no secret that Ehren had wanted the bite, she had asked for it- repeatedly. Annoyed and threatened the guy to bite her and teach her, but even with his lessons she was far from being in control of that side of her. It was constantly there, waiting for a spike in emotion- a weakness, to push itself through. Whether anyone saw, or knew it or not it happened frequently enough that it irritated the young lycan to no end. She had plenty of time to learn, however, seeing as she had eternity to get it right…assuming that the hunters don’t get you first. The thought was one she feared. She hated hunters, but she was afraid of them all the same, something she would never admit- especially to Grey who seemed to be immune to fear all together. There were negative things to being a lycan. There were the hunters, the need to eat human flesh, the unpredictability of when she would change and for how long. Ehren had been warned, but the positives to the gig were more than worth it. She could run fast- not as fast as a vampire, but hey, who wanted to be that fast? She was agile; she could sneak up on people and things something she never could have done before because of her moderately clumsy nature. She was strong; there were very few people that could hurt her, plus the immortal thing, who wouldn’t love that?
Besides, it gave her more than enough time to toy with Grey and get to know him, mostly to see if he would outgrow his manwhore lifestyle, but she doubted it would be any time soon. Ehren wasn’t sure if she found it entertaining or repulsive that he slept with so many women- something that was a known fact…throughout town, by both the supernatural and the humans. Hell, even hunters knew he’d have a go at them if they were hot enough. Grey offered something most men did not, a challenge. He was an arrogant asshole, although far from the worst in town, but he was sarcastic and bold enough to speak his mind. In a pack world she saw him at the top, just like her, the only difference being he couldn’t control himself (sexually and shifting wise) and she could…for the most part.
He was right, the place was more than tame, it was dull, but even she was entitled to a lazy day, right? She shrugged. “Maybe I’m feeling lazy today.” He had her on that front; she wasn’t much of a lazy person, her determination and need for a challenge kept her from having many of those. There were plenty of ways to make the zoo a challenge, but all were far too bold for her. Besides, it was the zoo; she wasn’t going to find many assholes here, just a bunch of families and animals. That’s what made it so boring for her, there was nothing to make her angry and so unless she was starving it wasn’t likely she would be shifting to make a kill any time soon.
His eyes flickered a wolfish gold and she smirked, refusing to move as he leaned forward slightly. Had she found a button to press? Her excitement dwindled when he spoke, her eyes narrowed slightly as her jaw clenched. She was not a puppy. That angered her more than anything, who cared if he called her love when a wolf was being called a puppy. Ehren knew she was young in the lycan world, but that meant very little to her. She was not a puppy and she never would be. “I’d rather be a puppy than a confused mutt.” She growled. The words scraping through her barely parted teeth. The tone was low and given the glower she gave with it, it was not at all friendly. Greyson had managed to rattle her a bit, although she hated giving him the satisfaction she was still impressed- on a level buried deep under the anger. Again his charming wit one over and he leaned closer, lips puckering as he mentioned her kissing him. Although it made butterflies flicker in her stomach, causing it to do a jarring flop, she made a quiet gagging noise. I’d rather bite you instead. The flirtatious thought almost made it to her tongue but instead she leaned forward ducking her head enough so that he wouldn’t be able to force a kiss on her without bending awkwardly. “You. Wish.” With those two simple words she leaned back and tried to push him back to create some space between them.
Fortunately, he settled into a reclined position against the railing, making her gaze wander fleetingly to the wolves that seemed to have calmed down considerably since Greyson appeared. He was such a good distraction. At the mention of a challenge her eyes returned to him. She looked around them, there weren’t many- if any- single women in the area, all had kids or a full family with them. “What would you be willing to bet on it?” Turning her eyes back to him, she raised a challenging brow. They hadn’t had a good bet in awhile, it’d be good to see him try and get anyone to go to bed with him when he smelled like that and was dusted in dirt. He spoke again, this time making her jaw drop open a little bit, more surprised that he said it than anything. Greyson…naked. In the zoo. “No, I think the animals saw enough to last a life time.” It was not the best recovery, but at least she hadn’t said ‘yes, take it all off.’

AND I'LL SET YOU FREEI AM IN MISERY* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
control was something that greyson loved to possess…whether it was concerning his own life or others. he was a lazy fucker, no doubt, but he still liked to have things organized. aside from just his personal affects, his personal affairs were usually in order too. he rarely lost his temper, though he was volatile once it was gone, he knew how to control his emotions. the last thing he needed was for others to see right through him, he had to at least make interactions with him a bit difficult. and of course, controlling others was his most favorite of things. it was simple, really, and took little effort on his part. through multiple conversations, he would say things to exploit the natures of his opponents, eventually having them eating out of the palm of his hand. the glory of it all was the fact that most of the time they didn’t even know he had won.
so for someone who needed to have some much control, one could imagine what a culture shock it had been for grey to have been turned into a lycan – a creature that frequently lost control. it terrified him at first, though he’d never admit it…having the loss of something he cherished so deeply. as any newly changed lycan probably knew, he was prone to waking up in places, naked, without so much as an inkling as to what had happened. days would disappear from his memory and each time, the physical pain seemed to get worse. the worse part, in his opinion, was having no authority as to who his victims would be. it took him nearly sixty years of discipline and physical punishment to overcome, but he believed he had the key to it all. he was able to change as he so wished and choose his victims accordingly. and he had that control back in his life. yes, it was a powerful thing. overall, things seemed to get better for him as the years past, but now, he was on the brink of losing control once more. he had ten good years of dictating the events of his life…perhaps it was just time for a relapse. it was inevitable and even the greatest control freak couldn’t prevent that.
grey had thought he was in love only one other time and that ended poorly for him. he would have been far more comforted if she had died all together, but instead, she had been transformed into his greatest enemy: a vampire. he probably could have made it work, escape together, but even she had decided he was impure to her now…despite wanting to be turned into a lycan in her mortal days. perhaps that was the one fact that link his feelings to ehren. she was far more beautiful than kathryn, but possessed the same great fiery passion. though his first initial thought was to get her into the bedroom, apart of him felt as though he could have explored a life outside of that with her. he’d watched her for some time before getting involved and thus far, it hadn’t gone so hot for him. greyson wanted the chance to show he could be much more than a one-night stand type of guy, but he wasn’t about to let his guard down around her either. after all, that would be losing his control over the world.
that was the thing about grey…while the zoo may have seemed an out of place trip for any other supernatural being, nothing was really unusual about him. he wandered around the places where he was least expected to be, therefore making them his most expected places to be. nothing was off limits and though he had no agendas, usually, he took the time to appreciate the things that no one else would. like the cemeteries of san diego: they went on for miles and yet, he seldom saw another soul there. ”who knew you were still able to act like the lazy american you were born to be? i see the wolf hasn’t completely taken you over yet.” he almost felt bad for such a rude comment, a feeling that was hard to come by in his book. still, he couldn’t help but point out his distaste for her life choice of asking for immortality.
”i’m hardly what i’d call a mutt….i’d win the whole westminster show if i went!” well, that didn’t make a terrible amount of sense considering his counterpart was a wolf, not a dog, but he tried anyway. ”just because you’re confused with what you’re doing, doesn’t mean you can say the same for me…i happen to know exactly what i’m doing. after all, seems like i’m the one with the full belly.” he patted his stomach, offering her a reproachful look. he enjoyed this back and forth banter, if nothing else. he couldn’t speak for her, but for him, it represented the pure sexual tension between him and ehren. ”would you prefer i called you a fox?” he grinned at her clear distaste for his comment, referring to her instead as what he referred to many women as. yes, she was a fox though he thought much more of her than that. ”keep playing hard to get….i love a chase.” he was a lycan, afterall…of course he loved it.
”you underestimate me, love. and the last time i struck up a deal with you, you didn’t honor it. if i recall, you owe me a kiss.” he threw a matter-of-factly- look in her direction even though he was basically making things up. he didn’t know what their last argument was that let to a bet, but he was sure he did not win it. and if he did, there’s no way in hell she agreed to kiss him….then again, what did he know? ”do you see any animals wearing clothes? don’t think they’d mind….seems like you’re the prude one here. such a shame.” he tapped a finger on her nose as he called her prude, laughing at his own gesture. oh, he was a piece of work.

I wanna see the dirt under your skin I want the guts and glory baby
Ehren’s choice had been one that she had thought about, the consequences had been weighed against what she would gain. The painful shift, the unpredictability of when it would happen, how long, it excited her. It was the last bit, the killing people that frightened her. Growing up an average moderately clumsy teenager who envied wolves so much that she studied them nearly her whole life, when she met a lycan she could not resist. Of course, her original thought had been shifting into an actual wolf- like several movies she had seen, but even the hideous beast that she turned into now was not all bad. Her shifted form was larger, but even so she was still dainty and elegant and even graceful, lacking the bulk that most male and larger female lycans had she was able to move much quieter and faster. She couldn’t match that of a vampire, but she didn’t need to be that fast or quiet- that would spoil all the fun. Many supernatural- not just lycans, resented her choice, others admired her for it, but their opinions mattered very little to her, it had been her choice, so as far as she was concerned they could all go fuck themselves.
Ironically, Ehren had not been much of a control freak before she had been turned; it wasn’t until afterward that she saw the advantages of being disciplined and in control. Of course, learning it while being a newly bitten lycan was not the easiest thing to do, she managed to get the concept down and still struggled to master it. She had eternity and she was still a ‘rookie’ in the eyes of the elders and even in comparison to those such as Greyson. Like many, it frightened her when she woke, bloodied and nude in the middle of nowhere- or even worse in the middle of somewhere. However, unless she shifted due to her emotions she usually found herself waking in the woods, bloodied and nude, but no one to gawk at her. Unlike Grey, losing control was habitual for the young lycan, it was irritating but she was working on it. Whether he knew it or not, Grey had actually helped her stop a shift, a feat she rarely managed- especially on her own. Distractions. she made a note to remember that for the next time, she just needed a distraction.
Ehren was not one to trust easily and with her being so young she had not been in love. Sure there had been high school sweethearts, but nothing major, nothing that could convince her to stay in place and not be a flesh crazed maniac that shifted into a wolf on every full moon. The feelings that fluttered through her mind and most of her body for Grey was strange to her, alien and so she did the only thing she knew how- she fought it. Aside from that, his reputation kept her at bay as well, she was not a slut and as far as she was concerned, only sluts slept with Greyson. They saw an attractive guy with a ‘bad boy’ vibe and they melted at the first sign of flirtation- hell, she was sure he didn’t even have to flirt, just had to say ‘hi’. That was not going to be her.
His next comment made her eyes turn a wolfish gold, the color remained for several long minutes before it was reigned in and her eyes settled with the dark brown she was born with. “Wolves can be lazy to.” She said matter-of-factly. It was true- although she had not seen any wild wolves she had seen documentaries, after a meal wolves were lazy, lounging around the kill without a care in the world… of course she was not full nor did she have a kill to laze around. Hell, she wasn’t even being lazy, but she didn’t mind him thinking that. It was better than ‘oh ya know, just taking a stroll through the zoo…pretending to be normal…the very thing I opted away from.’ The comment offended her, only because it seemed no one understood and everyone thought it was the best way to strike a cord with her. She didn’t think Grey would sink that low just to get a snippy comment in. Taking a deep breath she took a step back, putting more space between them. Her hard gaze falling on his lovely azure eyes. “You hate my choice, I get it. I hate your opinion of my choice get it? Good, no need to keep bringing shit up you can’t change or won’t try to understand.” There was sharpness to her voice that was rarely there; it held a ‘ nothing more to be said’ finality to it. He was welcome to try and understand, she would gladly explain, but she was not going to take his rude comments. Something you probably aren’t used to, asshole. she grumbled silently. Ehren was not a whore that would just cow down to him, she wasn’t the type to be pushed around, hell she didn’t even like compromising with anyone.
She snorted softly while giving him an ‘are you retarded’ look when he talked about winning a dog show. “I rest my case.” She muttered, more than loud enough for him to hear. If he wanted to think he was a dog when he shifted he was a little more mixed up than she thought. “Good to know that I can have you as dog chow when I shift.” She smirked lightly, settling back into a less disgruntled mood. She rolled her eyes when he said she was confused. She knew exactly what she was doing- she was observing animals at the zoo…until he interrupted her. “Right…and uh..what innocent did you kill this time?” She asked, voice laced in honey sweetness as she cocked her head to the side. He had the full belly and he probably lost control and killed someone. Yes, definite role model material.
Again, his wit proved to anger her. She was not some wily temptress and while she could be as cunning as a fox, she didn’t enjoy being called one. “No, I’d prefer you call me Ehren.” That was her name, no need for a cute pet-name. Afterall, she wasn’t the dog in the relationship. She couldn’t help but laugh at him, she wasn’t playing hard to get…was she? “Yes, cause I would run from you.” Her tone was sarcastic; she would rather a good fight with him, not a chase. Hard to get wouldn’t get her that. Still, he pressed by saying that she owed him a kiss. Again, she snorted. “I’m pretty sure I haven’t lost a bet with you. Trust me, I’d remember.” She would, having his lips on hers…Stop. The thought interrupted the trailing thoughts, shattering them before it could turn into a pretty little picture in her head.
“Really? So…what are humans then?” Her head cocked to the side as she tempted to outsmart him. As far as she knew, humans were animals, although they didn’t seem to think so. It was sad that he had even forgotten, but then again, who could blame him? He saw them as sex things, not people…right?

AND I'LL SET YOU FREEI AM IN MISERY* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
what really disgusted greyson about the modern day era was not all the stuck up snobs and technology ruling the lives of everyone. while he did prefer a simpler time, he could appreciate some of the gadgets that made life simpler. hell, even the pack headquarters had begun to install state of the art cameras and security systems to protect their homestead. he could even live with all the drama queens walking around the city and each of their fake plastic faces. instead, it was hollywood and false personifications they produced about his kinds and others. not only were the movies wildly inaccurate to the lifestyles of immortals (not that mortals would know any better), but they also made everything seem more glorified. had he been a young mortal man watching something of that nature, he probably would have wanted to jump on the bandwagon as well. ehren had not been the first youngster to join the pack in the last few years and grey was sure she wouldn’t be the last either. those who were aware of their existence wanted a shot at immortality, simply because they had seen a ridiculous film.
it was greyson’s wild and unpredictable nature that made it hard to believe that he could ever be considered in control. but by acting the way he did, he was essentially in control. those who were around her him always expecting a surprise, something to throw them off guard. while he was unsure of exactly what he was going to do in the company of others until the precise moment that he acted, grey figured this was exactly the best way to be in control….he always left people on the edge of their seats, therefore giving him the upper hand. it was the one night that grey let his guard down and became carefree that he was attacked and turned into the lycan he now was. had he never strayed from his usual ethics, he would have long since died a mortal life by now. he received top marks in school, attending a well-rated university and could have gone on to be just about anything he wanted. instead, he went against his father’s wishes for an arranged marriage and visited a speakeasy and ended up nearly having his throat ripped out. great life choice there. in conclusion to that night, he learned that losing control would never be a beneficial thing to him…no matter how much he enjoyed it.
jit was very seldom for greyson cyrprien to be turned down. if anyone was going to do the turning down, it was typically him…and even that was a rare occasion. mind you, he wasn’t a sleazebag who didn’t have any standards. after all, beautiful people belonged together, right? if there was anything that bothered him, it was being rejected. but instead of crushing his feelings or making him downright angry, he saw it as a challenge. and frankly, he quite enjoyed chasing after the women who liked playing a rousing game of cat and mouse. for the most part, his success rate was very high. but despite his efforts to ditch the mushy feelings, he couldn’t help but wonder why ehren seemed so important to him. she was young and unaware to all the secrets of their race…perhaps it was a need to protect her. either way, he didn’t know, but he didn’t like feeling so vulnerable around her. hunters, vampires, or otherwise could have come after him and he would have been on top of his game. but had ehren come at him with a round of silver bullets, he probably would have been completely unprepared.
”sounds like you’re taking a page out of my book. see, we do have something in common.” after all, we all knew grey liked to sit back and watch things play out before him. if he had a remote control for life, he could die happy (he’d probably also get pretty fat from lack of moving). though he would never confess how he truly felt for her (unless he miraculously did first), he spent much of his time silently brooding about her rejection of him. seeing her eyes flicker between hues satisfied him slightly, knowing he was at least getting to her slightly. that was just the nature of grey.
though he often skirted around the truth, there was no denying the next comment she made to him. in fact, he was rather well versed and outspoken about such a subject. he didn’t mind being a so-called monster now that he had had nearly a century to get used to it, but that hadn’t meant he would choose the life for himself if he could do it all over. he had lost plenty of people close to him and believe it or not, he could feel emotional pain. he tried not to think of it often but there were little aspects of his life that served as reminders. he knew damn well that ehren didn’t want to hear the opinion he gave her each time he met, but of course, when did that ever stop him? ”i won’t judge you, love…i’ll just leave you with a few words of wisdom…. his sarcastic, overly joking tone had turned slightly serious now, holding an air of lecturing nature to them. ”just wait until you have to watch every mortal in your life grow old and die. or wait for the day when you lose control over the beast you are and you attack someone close to you. and then there’s the inevitable day that the covens or demons will capture someone you love and use them as leverage to destroy you.” he was lost momentarily in his own words, thinking about all that he had endured. every scenario he had described to her were things that had ailed him. he had had relationships, friendships with plenty of mortals who grew old before him….and he couldn’t even be there for him in their last moments. in a rage, he had turned his brother into a monster just like him. and to the vampires, he lost his sister and only love of his life. immorality wasn’t worth all that pain.
it was her next reaction that brought him back to reality, letting the pained look fade from his features. ”doesn’t matter that i am….i’m the one with my life in control, princess.” he knew little about her, in reality, but could only assume her beginnings as a lycan was similar to his. her senses were probably constantly heightened, little things seemed to want to set her off into feeding frenzy easily, and she was still changing directly under the full moon. ”i could help you, ya know. there’s a reason the pack keeps me around. i am useful, despite popular belief.” it was true, really. he had been asked to coach a few of the newbies who were hard to get through to. he supposed this was entirely due to the fact that the elders didn’t want to deal with those who were faintly similar to grey….so he was assigned to them.
though grey may not have been able to control his actions, at least they were directed at an appropriate victim. a whiney brat or ungrateful teen wouldn’t have set him off, but someone being unkind and downright nasty to an animal he had a connection with was a different story. ”innocent? he was hardly what i’d call innoncent….just another super part of being in control. i can choose my meals. i get the feeling you still act like a shark who’s smelled blood in the water.” he wasn’t necessarily trying to be hurtful, more understanding…believe it or not. he had been through it all, and knew the difficulties that came with the title. ”you’ve only just seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what you are.” normally he didn’t care what the new lycans did or how many hoops they had to jump through, but with ehren, he wanted to make her see that things could get better. for all he knew, however, she enjoyed her life now.
”love it is, then.” he stated, ignoring the fact that she preferred to be called by her name. it wasn’t something he meant as offensive, just a matter of habit. hell, he even referred to men as ‘love’ on occasion and he was straight as a stick. ”if your more of the fight type than the flight type, i’d gladly agree to a wrestling match.” grey grinned at her wildly, finding amusement in his own notions. ”well, if i'm the one who lost the bet…then i suppose i owe you a kiss, eh?” he winked at her knowing she would never go for it. he half wondered what he reaction would be if he just kissed her. he’d probably earn a slap in the face, but it wouldn’t have been the first in his life.
greyson couldn’t help but roll his eyes at her whit, slightly amused that she had a good comeback to his retort. ”by your logic, i’m an animal and therefore, i shouldn’t be wearing clothing. so, if you say so…” mind you, he wasn’t a human but he was looking for an excuse to get to her. despite being in the middle of a child-filled zoo, grey pulled his plain black shirt over his head to expose his bare skin. he paused before he could take off his pants, knowing he wouldn’t go that far. he was by no means shy about his body, clearly, but he didn’t want to risk getting kicked out of the zoo and losing his company with ehren. lets see if that made her blush. ”need i continue?”

I wanna see the dirt under your skin I want the guts and glory baby
Despite the fact that he had ruffled her feathers and managed to get under her skin, his playful and sarcastic banter slowly brought her around to a somewhat good mood again. Although she did not agree, how could a man-whore and an uptight bitch have anything in common? In her mind, they couldn’t. Of course, she could have pointed this out, but she decided to keep that opinion to herself. There were moments of laziness with the young woman, but on average she was an active person, she grew restless when things became dull and boring, the wolf inside was more eager to be free in moments of idle laziness. At least while she was up and running about she did not have to fight it all the time, whereas watching movies or sitting at home watching tv she struggled to remain sitting. She couldn’t keep her constant motion up forever, she knew it and so did the beast inside, it was merely biding its time, waiting until she had no more energy to fight it. Knowing that moment was close at hand, she was frightened which drove her to be at the zoo, where she could walk around and think.
When he spoke about wisdom in a fairly serious turn, her mouth tightened and her brow rose. What could he possibly tell her that she did not already know? As he spoke his voice changed, as did his expression, it became pained and it did not take a genius to put two and two together, this was something he had been through. Only a fool would say ‘well it won’t happen to me’. There were parts that she was sure to experience- in time. The friendly nature that was slowly coming back fell away, leaving the two in a rather serious moment, one that she did not like for the simple fact she didn’t want to have any sort of serious conversation with anyone- especially Greyson. The fact of the matter was, she did not place herself with mortal friends, her family was across the country and as far as they were concerned she lived in another country. Ehren did not want mortal friends for the very reasons he pointed out. She did not want to watch them grow old and die nor did she want to attack anyone that couldn’t heal themselves. However, the last bit was something she had not thought of, but at that moment the only person she even remotely cared for was the man giving her the warning and no one- not even Greyson- knew about it.
“Look Grey, I do not want humans for friends, if I did I would be a little bit more outgoing and friendly. Yeah, I do worry about attacking someone I care about, which is why they are on the other side of the country- far away from me. I knew about the risk, I knew I would watch people get old and die, every bad thing that could come of being bitten was explained- in great detail.” Her tone had lost its harsh edge, she was not being hostile or arguing for the sake of arguing, she was trying to explain that the majority of his wisdom had already fallen on her ears- before she had been bitten. The lycan that bit her had not wanted to turn her, but fear of being exposed had been the final temptation he needed. She was a crafty girl; she knew how to get what she wanted- if it was important enough to her. “I don’t love anyone, so for now, I don’t have to worry about that.” She added as an after thought, remembering the only part that still applied to her. It was a half hearted sentence, it didn’t mean that she was lying, only that she didn’t believe something about it.
Again, he gave her a pet name and her calm features shifted back into a scowl. Did he have to keep taunting her? Was he trying to make her lose her cool and shift in front of everyone? It appeared that way, until he offered her some help. Her eyes widened slightly, head tilting to the side as she took an impulsive step towards him. “Really? And why would you help me when you could be busy getting laid?” While the conversation was still rather serious she attempted to return it to a humorous banter, making it obvious she was not comfortable with the serious words of wisdom he offered her. She was interested in his help though, at the very least he could help her control the shift on the full moon. Rolling her eyes at the reference of shark smelling blood, she shook her head. “Only some times.” Sometimes was the wrong word, it was happened most of the time. It wasn’t just the blood that caused her to shift, there was something else, she only lost immediate control when it was in sight, otherwise Ehren could at the very least fight it and get out of there…. and then shift. Smirking slightly, she moved forward, closing the gap between them again. “Well, if I’m missing out on so much on being a lycan, why don’t you enlighten me?” Her tone was once more challenging, since her previous challenge had not worked, she figured she would try again.
A wrestling match… she was not stupid, he was far stronger than her. you’re faster. The thought tempted her to take the challenge, what was the worst that could happen? You’d have to kiss him. The thought sent butterflies into her stomach again, causing the wolf to resume its pacing. Was a kiss really that bad? She was close enough that she could have easily leaned forward and kissed him but she reminded herself that she was not- and never would she be that easy. “Yeah, but I’m not collecting on that bet yet.” She said with a playful wink. What would he do with that bit of information? She studied him for a second, lingering in his personal space for no other reason than the fact that she could. Of course, when he moved off the pole he leaned on she took a step back, making sure that they did not touch. Listening to him try and play off her words she chuckled, but it died quickly as he pulled off his black shirt. Her mouth slipped open slightly as her eyes reflexively went over his body. He had a very nice body; there was no harm in fleetingly looking…right? The only problem was her eyes lingered longer than necessary. Asking if he should continue, she blinked, returning her gaze to his. “By my logic, humans are animals and thus, animals where clothes and considering we are half human- I think you should keep them on.” She smiled slightly, forcing her eyes to remain on his, even though they wanted to roam his body some more.

AND I'LL SET YOU FREEI AM IN MISERY* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
as far as greyson was concerned, there were always going to be moments in which control escape him…anyone of the same genetic makeup as he. back early nineteen hundreds, when he was first changed, it was much easier to get away with a mass of bodies in his wake. police didn’t have anywhere near the technologies they needed to catch the perpetrator and frankly, the mauled bodies tended to frighten them from the job. they chalked it up to wild animals or something of the sort, oblivious to what really lurked in the shadows. the hunters were few and far between which left the lycan race to thrive with very little cares, other than their vampire counterparts. but even back then, times were more peaceful. since those times, grey had figured he had killed fewer people in the last decade than he had in the first year after he was bitten. but while he considered the wolf tame, for now, he knew it was trying to break free from its bodily confines. the little stunt from the previous night was only the precursor to what he figured was going to be a great battle. he’d endured it before, but hoped he would have more control this time. because leaving dozens of dead bodies behind him every ten years, without any relocation, was not the most fun in the world. he enjoyed the kill, and remembering it was half of the fun.
in reality, greyson actually spent very little time dwelling on his past. while many with a colorful past as his would have been haunted by the memory each day, he tried to push it away. it was only a matter of time before the floodgates broke and he was forced to face the truth, but he adverted it as much as he could. he still had his brother and sister, even kathryn, they were just all monsters like him. and no matter how much he blamed himself for their fates, he had to eventually face the fact that the matter of events had been out of his hands. hell, before visiting the speakeasy that night long ago, he hadn’t even known anything supernatural or otherwise existed. he didn’t even believe in god.
though grey was trying to be helpful, he couldn’t help but offer an out of place laugh. who did she think she was kidding? greyson often thought he had all the answers to his own problems, just as ehren did here, but that was far from true. ”it’ll catch up with you, they’ll catch up with you. the life of a lycan is never peaceful.” it was true, they were never really at peace at anything they did. perhaps that was why he always did the outrageous things he did…it was better than sitting and moping about what his life once was. ”if you were so content on being alone and keeping away from everyone, a lycan was not the creature you should have sought out. perhaps a demon possession would have been more fitting.” the seriousness was starting to elude his vocals as he let them drip with sarcasm once more. if she wasn’t looking for a lifetime of long-lasting relationships, then she was in for a world of hurt. being a lycan was all about pack dynamics and looking out for your kind. ”once you find that one person you love, that’ll be all you can think about. it’ll either make you stronger, or destroy you.” grey couldn’t say he loved ehren, not yet, but those feelings had certainly started to surface for her. everyone knew that lycans, much like wolves, mated for life…there was only one person they were truly destined to be with.
keeping his same nonchalant expression as he always possessed, grey kept his gaze upon ehren as she stepped toward him. either she was going to tell him to buzz off or she was intrigued by his offer. it was a genuine offer for help and he would make good on it if she requested it of him. he wouldn’t have minded getting in her pants, of course, but he was looking more to get inside her head and find out more about her. mind you, he wasn’t going to tell her that, but he actually wanted her to give him a chance…to let him be a part of her life. he would make no promises that he would be a good friend, but that hadn’t meant he wouldn’t try. ”i’ve got an eternity to make good on that one….but you need help now.” he grinned slightly. he had the urge to tell her how he really felt but suppressed it. all he had known most of his life was his manwhorish life and he wasn’t sure he was ready to give that façade up….at least not to the public eye. ”i’m not sure why you feel this need to challenge me all the time, love…” he left a finger curl around a wisp of lose hair before tucking it behind her ear. he was sure she would recoil from him but he still loved getting to her. ”…we both know i’d win a fight anyway…it wouldn’t be a fair match.” he had started off referring to their rocky relationship, whatever that may be, but turned it into a joke about strength. ”its not something i can just tell you…it more or less has to be shown.” it was an excuse to get her to hang around with him, but he could help her out more than she probably realized. ”you just gotta let that guard down and stop being so damn moody, dollface. you’re too pretty for frowns anyway.” it wasn’t often that he commented on others without the intentions of being in their pants afterwards.
”ahhh, so there’s hope for an old dog like me?” greyson wasn’t even sure what he would do with a kiss from her….it was something as simple as a kiss but to him it would likely mean more. he wanted it to mean more. the feelings he had for her made him feel nauseous sometimes, disgusted by his own sappy thoughts. greyson could but note her eyes upon him, getting partially the reaction he was hoping for. of course, his main goal was to get her hands on him, but he knew that was never going to happen. ”really, because you’re eyes are telling me otherwise.” he smirked, enjoying the pat to his ego.
