as an archangel, it is only fitting that raphael be seen as a protector. as a healing angel, he was created by god to ensure the world would never go exstinct. he has the ability to heal those who have made a great sacrifice for human kind. though he does not get to use this ability as often as he would like, raphael does his best to protect the world around him. whether its one of his brothers or someone with a pure soul, he will do what he needs to.
with the war upon them, raphael has turned into much more of a vengeful angel than he was originally designed. with god going into hiding and letting his world fend for themselves, raphael has had a new fire ignite within him. he's out to defeat the supernatural race who is corrupting and harming humans. likewise, he is after all of his brothers who continue to dote on the word of god, despite the fact that he is to do only good.
raphael is extremely conflicted at this point in time. though he is a strong man, capable of voiding all emotions as necessary, he is letting his feelings get in the way. he is upset with god for abandoning him (and everyone else) and is unsure how to act. whereas most of his brothers are smiting the world as their creator, raphael is unsure if he should follow in his footsteps or do what he knows is right. he is beginning to stray from the duties he was created to do, for lack of better purposes.
though he can be a hard angel to deal with, raphael does have a soft spot for those in need. only once has he been subject to the temptations of a woman and it was only because she needed the energy to live on. he takes mercy upon those who deserve and cares greatly for those who fall into this category.
being that he is going slightly rogue from the boughs of heaven, raphael has begun to explore the world around him....include sins of the body. he is an extremely intelligent and tactical man, always looking for the answer to things people have given up on. though he feels like mortals are insolent and sometimes undeserving of mercy, he doesn't feel like the world needs a cleansing. so he has made it his job to figure out what can be done to save the human race.
for the most part, this archangel is an extremely strict guy. he doesn't give into to jokes or trickery and punishes those who do. the closest he gets to anything like this is sarcasm, and even that's seldom. he takes his position and the word of the lord very seriously and will defend the ten commandments and such down to the tee.

only in the last century or so has raphael decided to stray from his duties as an archangel. now, with the war upon them, he feels the need to abandon god all together. god has gone on a bit of hiatus, disgusted with his world, and instructed his angels to smite the world. seeing no need for this, raphael has decided to explore other options. for most of his life, he was instructed to use his powers only on those truly deserving redemption. today, he is using it more often, straying from the boughs of heaven, and attempting to find out just how fun the fruits of the forbidden forest can be.
